-Powewerk Interview: M.Laura Ruggiero

Here´s an excerpt of a interview made by Powerwerk (Germany) to María Laura Ruggiero in a post-Talent Campus Special. Animation by M.Laura Ruggiero

You are a specialist for 3D animations. What do you think is so special for all these fictive character which are not played by real actors? Dothey act differently?

I think that what makes animation special is the possibility to create “life” beyond the concepts of what’s possible. Animation gives you the chance to defy the limits implied in “live” moviemaking and makes it possible for you to bring to life all the ideas that could cross your mind.

In 3D animation or computer generated animation, in particular, there’s an ongoing trend to try to emulate reality, to create an almost perfect photo realism. This, of course, requires a vast knowledge of different techniques, the most advanced technology and a profound study of the possibilities of animation just to try to duplicate reality. The question is ¿Is it really necessary? Probably it’s just a matter of personal interests and tastes, but immersed in my own passion, I try to use animation to subvert reality instead of trying to copy the real world.

Argentine movies, German movies, English movies, etc… Do you think that they are very different?

Oh yes, thank god they are different. Different cultures, different themes, actors, sensibility…Everything is different and unique and that is absolutely amazing. I would never want all movies to look and feel alike but to express their own truth. Whether it’s rejecting, embracing or ignoring their own roots, there’s something distinctive about the place where each of us come from, and it’s something to celebrate rather than hide.
